How do screw-mounted house signs work? (Standoffs explained)

Dagood sign standoffs allow acrylic house signs to be screw-mounted to a wall with a clean, intentional gap behind the sign. This creates a modern floating appearance and a secure, long-term installation.

What are sign standoffs?

Sign standoffs are metal mounting fittings used to fix acrylic signs to walls or fences while leaving a small space between the surface and the sign face.

They are designed for:

• Screw-mounted installations

• A floating or architectural finish

• Precise, consistent spacing from the wall

Standoffs cannot be used with stainless steel, as this material cannot be drilled or cut for standoff mounting.

Standoff dimensions & spacing

Our standard standoffs have the following specifications:

• Diameter: 19 mm

• Cap thickness: 6 mm

• Wall spacer (gap): 25 mm

• Maximum acrylic thickness: 12 mm

The spacing between the wall and the sign is 25 mm and is fixed.

Dagood sign standoffs are available in three finishes, each with its own SKU:

What’s included with sign standoffs?

Each standoff pack includes:

• 4 × metal standoffs (caps + spacers)

• Mounting screws

• Wall plugs (plastic expansion anchors for masonry walls)

One pack is typically sufficient to install one standard acrylic house sig

Sign size compatibility

Standoffs do not restrict the width of the sign.

Any acrylic sign within the selected size (for example, 250 mm wide or less) can be installed using standoffs, provided the wall surface is suitable for screw fixing.

Installation overview

Is there a gap between the wall and the sign?

Do standoffs affect the sign width?
No. They only determine the mounting method and wall spacing.

Are standoffs included with house signs?
Sign standoffs are sold separately from custom house signs.They are an optional mounting accessory and must be purchased in addition if you would like your acrylic sign to be screw-mounted with a floating gap. Custom signs are supplied without standoffs by default.

Are standoffs required to install an acrylic sign?
No. Acrylic signs can also be installed using adhesive mounting. Standoffs are optional and used only for screw-mounted installations with a floating gap.

What wall types are standoffs suitable for?
Standoffs are suitable for brick, concrete, and masonry walls using the supplied wall plugs. Other wall types may require alternative fixings.

Can standoffs be installed outdoors?
Yes. Standoffs are suitable for outdoor installation and designed for external use.

How many standoffs are needed per sign?
Most signs are installed using four standoffs, one in each corner. Larger or custom designs may vary depending on layout.
